Hey, I’m Kara
I'm all about easy peasy ideas — GUAR-AN-TEED to make your life feel more joyful, connected, and inspired. No 4am journaling, pinkie swear.
I know your laundry is self-replicating like Gremlins while you moonlight as an on-call Uber for trips to Altar’d State and the Lego Store, alongside your waitressing, chef, personal assistant, therapist, and Math tutor positions.
You’ve got a lot on your plate, and sometimes that means your magic — your personal brand of special sauce — gets buried.
THIS IS A TRAVESTY. We need you lit up!
You deserve a life that’s full and inspiring. You’re allowed to set boundaries to help you be your best self. You can make time for friends and hobbies and learn to be present in a way that keeps you connected to your life. You can be close to your family. You can work to make the world a better place while maintaining your sanity.
In short, it’s possible to create a life that is joy-full and feels and looks like you at your best.
And, listen — we’re not filling our lives with more overwhelm, so everything I ever suggest is easy-to-implement with a big bang for your buck. Teensy, tiny actions WILL change your life, because small changes over time can’t help but take you somewhere new.
Why work with Kara?
Three ways in, depending on how much time you’ve got and how buried your magic currently is. All of them are more fun than the books by your bed.
A one-hour recorded workshop where you build a list of 1–3 daily non-negotiables you actually enjoy and fit your life. Bring a pen. Watch whenever.
Best if you want the fastest possible start, on your own schedule.Twelve weeks of actually building the habit of putting yourself back on your to do list — with me in your corner the whole time, hollering encouragement.
Best if you’ve started before and fizzled out.Four weeks of one-on-one coaching with me, on your actual life, at whatever pace your week allows. The deep end, in the best way.
Best if you want my eyes on your specific mess.
Why should I listen to you, rando Internet lady?
I mean that with total sincerity. If you asked me how things were, I’d have said, “Fine,” and meant exactly that.
My relationship with my husband was not great, not terrible. I had money issues to spare, but who didn’t? I was a great mom, but felt unfulfilled creatively, which spilled over into my relationships with my kids. My health was in pretty bad shape, but not dreadful enough to require true attention.
This is not to say I didn’t often have a GREAT time — I had friends and family I laughed hard with, had moments of creative clarity, took amazing family vacations. There was a ton of good.
But if I looked at the overall arch of my days, the meat of my life, I was going through most days feeling…fine.
And it came to my attention that I could conceivably live the rest of my days in this state. Never quite facing the reality of what was going on in order to keep the status quo. Always looking forward to the next thing that was going to magically make my life feel like me.
Or I could change it.
I’ll give you one guess as to the road I took.
It was so many small steps over what felt like an ENORMOUS amount of time, but one day I looked up and my life was completely different.
I genuinely want to be in the day-to-day of our life. There’s no “living for the weekend” going on here. And even when it’s not ideal, it’s still okay. When it’s messy and painful and gross, we get through it because we’re looking it in the eye instead of burying it under more junk and pretending it’s all fine.
I’m IN my life, living it as only I can. I am fully in my magic, more times than not. And that’s what I want for you.
A life you WANT to be living. Where you show up consistently and with verve. Where you show your kids what is possible because you are your best and brightest self. Where you feel like “YEE-HAW!” more days than not. Where you roll with the punches and don’t lose yourself when things get hard.
Every day doesn’t have to be a gold star day, but how good would it feel to have a life you really enjoyed living?
It takes time, effort, and dedication. But it is worth it, because YOU ARE WORTH IT.
I don’t believe in magical transformations in a weekend, but I do know if you take enough small steps, you can’t help but end up somewhere different.
This whole place is about tiny shifts so you can build a life that only you can build. We emphasize fun, self acceptance, mental health, and putting yourself back on your to do list and, omg, WHY AREN'T WE WORKING TOGETHER YET?!??!?!
Can we get a few more deets?
I’ve been writing about the same things — joy, self acceptance, mental health, mom life — just under different domain names (fabulistas, seriousmomfun; omg, blog names are the worst).
For a while, I was a successful wedding blogger and then a social media consultant. These roles faded into the background once I had kids and became a Stay-at-Home-Mom, a title I wear with pride and trepidation — because, while I’m fantastic at listening, empathizing, and having a blast with my kids, I’m also terrible at laundry, cooking, and all the things a SAHM is supposed to do.
Now I coach, write, and teach on joy and optimism, in between my full-time, unpaid gig of chauffeuring my children.
I’m so happy you’re here! xx. Kara
(But, sometimes, it’s nice to have. 😍)
Permission Slip is your virtual thumbs-up to join a salsa class, turn down that coveted PTA position, take a middle-of-the-day nap, or try out barrel jeans.
I’ve got tiny shifts, bonker ideas, and real life inspo (and embarrassments) to help you find guilt-free time to build a lit up life.
